Why the diagonal lies
Screen sizes are quoted as a diagonal, but you don't watch a diagonal — you watch an area. Because area grows with the square of the diagonal, a 75-inch TV isn't "10 inches bigger" than a 65-inch one: it has 33% more screen. Aspect ratio matters too: at the same diagonal, an ultrawide 21:9 monitor is wider but has less total area than a 16:9 one. Screen Versus does this math for you and draws both screens in one picture, true to scale.

Frequently asked questions
How much bigger is a 75-inch TV than a 65-inch TV?
A 75-inch 16:9 TV is 166.0 cm wide and 93.4 cm tall; a 65-inch is 143.9 cm by 80.9 cm. That's 33% more screen area — much more than the "10 inches" suggests.
Are these dimensions with or without the bezel?
All figures are for the visible screen only. Real TVs and monitors add roughly 1–3 cm of bezel on each side, and stands vary by model, so check the manufacturer's spec sheet for exact cabinet dimensions.
What does the diagonal actually measure?
The diagonal is the distance between opposite corners of the visible screen, measured in inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm). Two screens with the same diagonal but different aspect ratios have different widths, heights and areas.
How far should I sit from my TV?
A common recommendation is a horizontal viewing angle between 30° and 40°. For a 65-inch 16:9 TV that works out to roughly 2.0–2.7 m (6.5–8.8 ft). Our viewing distance calculator does this for any size.
Why does an ultrawide monitor look smaller than expected?
At the same diagonal, a 21:9 ultrawide is wider but shorter than a 16:9 monitor, and its total area is smaller. A 34-inch ultrawide is about as tall as a 27-inch 16:9 display.
Is the comparison image to scale?
Yes. Both screens are drawn in the same scale, aligned at the bottom-left corner, so the picture shows the true relative difference. You can also add a credit card, an A4 sheet or a person for a sense of absolute size.
Is Screen Versus free?
Yes — free, no ads, no sign-up, and it works in any browser including your phone. All calculations run locally on your device.
